Ancestry.com – Sold for $1.6 billion dollars.

The genealogy site Ancestry.com, agreed early Monday to be purchased by Permira, a European private equity firm, for $1.6 billion dollars.

Ancestry.com headquarters will remain at Provo, Utah and will retain the same executives.

In particular, CEO Tim Sullivan and CFO Howard Hochhauser, maintain a majority of their equity stakes in Ancestry.com as part of the sale.

Founded in 1985, Permira is one of the largest and most experienced European private equity firms. Over the last decade the firm has built and continued to invest in its global network.

Today the firm has 12 offices across Europe, the US and Asia.
