BrandVerity: Reporting trademark violations to Google and Bing

BrandVerity is a Seattle, Washington company that provides services that detect online brand and trademark abuse, since its founding in 2008.

An example of brand infringement would be the exploitation of the Oscars ceremony, an event attracting a lot of eyeballs, by buyers of traffic.

In this example, BrandVerity details the methodology used by the infringer, exposing the domain LiveOscarsStream.com, registered a few days before the Oscars ceremony for that purpose.

Today, BrandVerity announced the launch of custom processes with Google and Bing, for reporting such cases of trademark and brand abuse:

BrandVerity, a trademark and brand protection service for large online brands, has announced a set of custom processes with Google and Bing for reporting trademark violations.  These new processes provide feedback directly from the search engines whenever a trademark complaint is sent through the BrandVerity system, giving users assurance that violations have truly been removed.

In cases where an ad has not been removed, users will receive a response from the search engine explaining why the ad is still running. This information can help brands hone their complaints and get more violations taken down in the long run, ultimately reducing the Cost-per-Click paid on their branded keywords and increasing the Clickthrough Rate on their own ads.

These recent enhancements will help BrandVerity’s clients ensure trademark compliance more comprehensively in paid search. Brands use BrandVerity’s suite of tools to eliminate malicious advertisers who mislead searchers and damage their brand name. By identifying and reporting trademark violations from within the BrandVerity system, brands can fend off abusive advertising such as search arbitrage, trademark hijackers who promote toolbars and malware, and even phishing scams.

The new custom processes also apply to the other engines in Google and Bing’s respective search networks. BrandVerity collects feedback on trademark complaints for ads appearing on Google, Bing, Yahoo, AOL, and Ask.

At this stage, BrandVerity has rolled out its process globally with the Google search network. Its custom process with the Yahoo Bing Network is initially being launched for ads appearing in the US and Canada.
