Domain Registry of Canada: It both sounds and looks official

Domain Registry of Canada is not an official domain authority.

Late last week we covered the big slam-dunk by ICANN on serial slammers, Domain Registry of America; their registrar outfit, NameJuice, aka “Brandon Gray Internet Services” was given a 90 day suspension.

DROA operates other similar points of contact, such as Domain Registry of Canada, Domain Registry of Europe and Internet Registry of Canada.

For years, DROA has been stuffing the mailboxes of millions with legitimate-looking documents that attempt to collect a minimum of four times the registration fee per domain.

In an article at TechGage, its author points out that these printed materials not only look official, but the sender’s name sounds official.

And that’s exactly how this scam works; one is made to believe they are dealing with a legitimate authority. The small print points out that this isn’t the case, but human psychology works by focusing on the main, emphasized elements of a document or statement.

Hopefully, Domain Registry of America will be shut down permanently as it serves no purpose other than to confuse the millions of recipients of its spam and to collect exuberant fees unrelated to domain registration costs.
