Butt-registrations of domains can be a hit or miss.
An amazing incident of cosmic proportions occurred, when domain investor Allan Protrikivich registered a domain name and resold it – all by accident.
The Jupiter, Florida domainer was rushing into the escalator of a mall in downtown Orlando, when the oncoming crowds caused him to change his position.
“I turned to the right, against the escalator rail and at that point my iPhone launched the TRAFFIC app that I have downloaded and use often,” said Protrikivich.
“Essentially, the app registered a domain with whatever buttons were being pressed by my butt!” he added, chuckling.
Not paying much attention to this accidental domain butt-registration, Allan was shocked to receive an offer for the domain, just four days later. He ended up selling it for $1,450 to a buyer from Hong Kong.
“I had no idea my butt was capable of making money,” said Allan. “Obviously, the bizarre string of letters could only mean something in a language such as Chinese. I am glad the buyer didn’t know the truth about my domain butt-registration!” added Allan, laughing out loud.
Domainers are thus advised to be careful with the placement of their smart phones in back pockets, as it might lead to a lot of butt-registrations they won’t be able to flip.
