Firefox 34 is finally out, and along with a couple of security and visual enhancements, it delivers the ability to communicate via WebRTC video.

The latter, is an encrypted peer-to-peer (p2p) video sharing protocol, enabling anyone to initiate, share and establish a video connection with another Firefox 34 user, without the need of special software.

Once you enable the video broadcasting from within Firefox 34, a direct URL is presented, which you can then share via messaging, social media, email etc. with another person.

The connection is established within seconds, and all audio and video from that point are exchanged directly between the two points of communication. Unlike services such as Skype, there is no need for a centralized server to manage the connection.

We tested the feature and the video connection is smooth, although there is currently no audio cancellation mechanism built in, which is anticipated in future releases.

In an era where Internet users are concerned about anonymity and privacy, a WebRTC-enabled browser such as Firefox 34 is a welcome introduction.
