Gaijin-san Domainer: Japan Girls .com

Gaijin-san Domainer is the playful moniker of domain investor extraordinaire, David J. Walker, who takes us to yet another tour behind the scenes in modern Japan.

After a hard a hard day’s work with the Chief Executive Marketers of Sony and Toys“R” Us having a conference to discuss shelf space for the PlayStation 4 versus the Xbox One, it didn’t quite go in the favor of Sony to receive the highest attention.

Their next move? Impress Toys“R”Us by inviting them out to one of the many plentiful bars Japan has to offer.

Bar girls in Japan.

Bar girls in Japan.

Unlike in the States where guys will go to bars to meet girls and the girls can either decide to continue the conversation or move on, it’s much more different in Japan. In essence, you buy talk time with girls as if it’s a 1-900 number that includes drinks.

Bars are split up into three snack bar categories which are meant to entertain the guys. A Japanese man will have the option to choose a girl or even change girls if the conversation isn’t going the way he intended or she doesn’t entertain him as he feels he should be.

  • Kyabakura, which is a louder club setting, typically charges hourly with a table charge which could range from $20 to $100 an hour depending on the amount of guests, day of the week and the girls you select. This attracts younger guys to meet girls.
  • Snakku, the typical snack bar, intended for the older generation and regulars which is on a per bottle basis.
  • Kulabu, this can be a quiet club or lounge setting, it can be a mix of the two where you pay per bottle or hourly. At this bar, the girls are dressed in nice evening attire with a perm done daily. These places often have a VIP room that comes with the most attractive girl and the option to add more on a pay-per-girl basis.

As the Chief Marketing Officers of Sony want their product displayed up front and in everyone’s face as soon as they walk through the door with the enticing and cheaper price tag than the Xbox One, they invite the CMOs of Toys“R”Us out to discuss business further and have a good time.

From the three types of snack bars, they would take them out to a Kulabu lounge setting. Sony would then reserve the VIP room, get a good guy to girl ratio so that everyone is entertained and enough alcohol to go around for the night spending in excess of $10,000 in order to pursue the CMO’s at Toys“R”Us for the space desired.

It isn’t unusual for companies to invite other businesses out to snack bars in order to create good business relations. Quite often, the inviting company pays to take guests out. This is considered a tax write off as it is considered a “loss”; albeit a win, for the company.

    Yummm. Asahi biiru (beer). 🙂

Though more of an Orion fan (local brew from Okinawa). 😉

David – Not sure if the sight of those kyabakura girls with the beer make me thirstier or hornier. 😀 It’s the same as with Hooters: eye candy to get tips.

  3. David says:

Except in Japan, tipping is not customary… save tips for more beer. 😉

David – With my tipping habits, I’d be an emperor in Japan then. 😀
