GoDaddy to start charging per account login

Bob Parsons built an empire by being frugal.

Bob Parsons built an empire cent by cent by cent.

Elliot’s ‘shock and awe’ post about how GoDaddy is dropping accounts from its premium, executive support, was just the prelude for something grander.

According to various sources at Name.com, GoDaddy is now rolling out its new customer tiers and plans to itemize charges even further.

“I logged into my GoDaddy account this morning, and instead of the usual buxom ladies I was presented with this popup asking for my confirmation to proceed with payment, WTF??!” said GoDaddy customer Kim Kravitz.

“The text said I needed to deposit $1 in order to log in and if I accepted, they’d deduct it from my PayPal!” exclaimed Kravitz. “Are these people insane?” added Kravitz.

This sudden move by GoDaddy might further increase the battle for micro-payments, small deductions that accumulate over time and customer volume.

With more than 40 million domain names under its belt, GoDaddy is the largest registrar in the known cosmos.

Would you pay $1 per login? We think that 10 cents would be just about right.
