Greek professor Panagiotis “Takis” Metaxas teaches Computer Science at Wellesley College in Massachusetts,  doing research on online social networks, multimedia programming, parallel computing, image dithering and CS education.

Professor Metaxas studied Mathematics at the University of Athens and Computer Science at Brown and received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Dartmouth; from there on, he has been a visiting scientist at MIT, the Sydney University in Australia, and at Harvard.

Despite all these impressive credentials, Mr. Panagiotis Metaxas came face to face with corporate greed, when the company Remy-Cointreau filed a UDRP against Metaxa.net, a domain he registered and used since 1999.

Remy-Cointreau bought a well-known Greek spirits company, METAXA, and over the years they attempted to eliminate the presence of this not uncommon Greek last name from Google and other search engine results.

After we covered the UDRP decision involving Metaxa.net in June, Professor Panagiotis Metaxas put together an empowering, detailed synopsis of the case, that would serve as a guide to others potentially facing the same situation.

Titled, “Defending your Domain Name“, the article offers a great insight on the frivolous claims often employed by greedy corporations against the rights of individuals.
