ICANN: Registrar behind Domain Registry of America gets letter of suspension

ICANN has sent a letter of suspension to the domain registrar behind the notorious Domain Registry of America (DROA), a company that is allegedly one of the biggest domain slammers on the Internet.

According to Wikipedia, domain slamming is the practice whereupon “the offending domain name registrar attempts to trick domain owners into switching from their existing registrar to theirs, under the pretense that the customer is simply renewing their subscription to their current register.”

For years, Domain Registry of America has been sending emails and letters, notifying domain owners of supposed renewals and asking for fees that are unrelated to actual registrar charges.

ICANN’s suspension notice blocks the registrar used by DROA, Brandon Gray Internet Services Inc., aka NameJuice.com until October 17th; the registrar will thus be unable to register any additional domain names until they comply with the cease and desist letter, as related to DROA.

The suspension is long overdue. It should be permanent revocation and the group sentenced to a life sentence away from the Internet.

Jeff – I agree, they’ve been stuffing our PO box for years with their junk!
