With $350 million in the bank, ICANN is now able to up the ante in the gTLD game.
Just a few days after the announcement of 1,930 gTLD applications, ICANN clearly establishes itself as the master of the domain.
“We want to make sure the Internet remains a healthy arena for e-commerce and sometimes litigation can stifle that,” said outgoing ICANN CEO, Rod Beckstrom.
“With the introduction of the .RDH gTLD, any company that wants the .com that someone already owns, will be awarded that .RDH domain instead,” added Beckstrom with a broad smile.
RDH stands for Reverse Domain Hijacking and the proposed gTLD is expected to grow in leaps and bounds.
“Think of it as a parallel universe to .com”, said Beckstrom. “If a company can’t seriously file a frivolous lawsuit to get, SaveMe.com, for example, it will be given the SaveMe.RDH and be done with it. Simple as that!”
The .RDH domains will be free to register, sponsored by ICANN’s increased revenue stream from lowering the allowed expenses of its members, when wining and dining more than 1,000 miles away from their home country.
