It’s a small world: Madoff used Dropped Domain for business venture

Mark Madoff, son of convicted pyramid scheme operator Bernie Madoff was found dead in his New York City apartment, having committed suicide by hanging himself.

Despite the involvement of Mark Madoff in his father’s business that resulted in the loss of $65 billion in investor funds, it’s sad seeing another human being taking his life.

The Madoff gang during better times - Mark Madoff in the middle.

In  March of 2010, Mark Madoff announced the creation of “a small research boutique – one of the projects will be a news round-up that captures stories from most major publications.”

The firm was named Strategic Research Advisors and apparently the owner of StrategicResearchAdvisors.com had owned it for a while; since the domain is still parked at Sedo, it’s quite possible that the owner was offered less than he expected in order to sell.

Instead of going after the “long tail”, Mark Madoff went after an available, previously registered and dropped domain that fit its purpose of use as an acronym: SRADV.com

The domain SRADV.com was registered in late January 2010 at GoDaddy, utilizing WHOIS shield; before that, it was owned by several people since 2002, among which is a known domain investor according to historic data from DomainTools.com

It’s hard to fathom the change in lifestyle that Mark Madoff had to go through, from his gold and diamond riches as the son of a billionaire to the rags of having a convicted criminal in his family. The pressure was too much and with a pending lawsuit of $900 million against him, he obviously succumbed to the pressure.

The future of SRADV.com thus seems to be determined: another drop upon its expiration in January 2012.
