Lambda SAT: First Greek made satellite launches this weekend

Finally, the Greeks are about to make it into space.

Long after Hermes sported winged shoes and Helios rode the sun’s chariot across the sky, the Greek-made Lambda satellite is about to launch from Cape Canaveral in Florida.

The design and launch of the Lambda Sat unit will help research the exotic material of graphene, a two-dimensional, one-atom thick sheet of carbon with excellent electrical, chemical and mechanical properties.

It will also assist with the monitoring of Greek merchant ships at risk from piracy, particularly off the African coast.

Sporting the motto “Greek minds at work“, the Lambda Team satellite has been successfully tested at the NASA Ames Research Center, passing all the strict International Space Station standards.

Due to current weather conditions in the region, the Lambda Sat launch was rescheduled for July 13th, 12:52PM Eastern.
