My Black Friday nightmare experience

Black Friday nightmares.

At 4am I was ready, my mittens and scarf and hoodie protecting me from the low Florida temperatures, that had fallen into the mid 40’s.

I was waiting outside of BestBuy, where all the good deals of the day were awaiting me.

The crowds were getting antsier by the minute, as rumors of a 50″ tv deal for $199 circulated.

Ah, Black Friday, the day all consumers live to die for!

I took my thermos out and had a couple of sips of black coffee that invigorated me temporarily.

Suddenly, I saw Rick Schwartz coming out of the store’s not yet opened to the public entrance, carrying a couple of Xbox360’s and hauling a trailer with two large televisions on it.

“Rick! What, where, how?” I exclaimed.

Rick smiled at me and said:

“When I asked everyone through my blog to step away from their keyboard and ‘vacate’, where do you think I went to? Being #1 in any line pays off, folks!”

As I watched Rick hurry towards his vehicle, suddenly Frank Schilling came out of the store. He was hauling a dozen or so computers, preloaded with Windows8.

“Hey Lucius, what’s up brother?” Frank asked, smiling. “I know, you’re surprised to see me here but it’s all because of my new DNS app; I can get price quotes and can even ask a friend about domains, I’m always closing deals as we speak, see you later!”, he added.

That was a severe blow to my ego, still waiting to get a cheap solid state drive and being 20th in line. But nothing prepared me for what came next.

Ron Jackson rushed out of BestBuy, hauling two platforms loaded with all types of photography gear. As I looked at him gasping, he smiled at me.

“Lucius, I just bought the entire camera section of this store, they had a great deal for domainers plus my status as editor of DNJournal helped a bit, I believe. Are you going to TRAFFIC in Vegas? See you there my friend!”

I was busy watching Ron hop happily away to his vehicle, when the doors opened to the general public. I felt a push, then another, then I was on the hard concrete, face down, being trampled by dozens of customers.

That’s when I passed out.

When I woke up, my cat was licking my feet and I was still in bed, cosily wrapped in blankets. The sun was shining through the windows of the house. My coffee maker had kicked in with the smell of delicious java.

I looked at the clock, it said 9:30am. I had slept in. It was a nightmare, after all!

Who needs Black Friday when you can sleep in, the day after Thanksgiving. 😀
