Netflix sucks! Unfortunately, they let their domain expire!

This little Netflix envelope will cost you more from September 1st.

Popular DVD/Video rental company Netflix decided to up their rates by a whopping 60%!

Their announcement reached the mailboxes of 23 million subscribers, who are shocked to find out that if they want to rent unlimited DVD’s per month they’d have to fork out additional cash.

The email we received reads as follows:

We are separating unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming into two separate plans to better reflect the costs of each. Now our members have a choice: a streaming only plan, a DVD only plan, or both.

Your current $9.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs will be split into 2 distinct plans:

Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs, 1 out at-a-time (no streaming) for $7.99 a month

Your price for getting both of these plans will be $15.98 a month ($7.99 + $7.99). You don’t need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.

These prices will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.

Thousands of Netflix users revolted and voiced their frustration on twitter and on the facebook page of Netflix.

Someone even registered NetflixSucks.com – which according to Domaintools was owned by Netflix in 2010 but it expired and dropped in April of this year. Netflix still owns the .net

Sorry Netflix, that’s a double screw-up! 😀

Only suckers buy books, DVDs,CDs ,magazines when you can get free from your public library.

How many movies can you watch a day? that why people get FAT!!! and chunky and ugly.

Turn off the internet and go out to play.

  2. Gnanes says:

Charge more for DVD package and people will stop ordering DVDs and watch it online.

  3. Michael says:

Netflix is leading video streaming provider with the largest market share, so if they rise the price you don’t have any additional choice, so you have to stick with them and pay the higher prices

Of course it is not really fair step but the price still isn’t that high so we will have to pay it

And small fail with dropped domain name 🙂

    Gnanes,

Unfortunately that is a limited option at this time as the library of movies available for streaming
is no match to the physical DVD library.

To Michael, I can tell you’re a douche- which is why i wont list all the websites I go to that you can watch New Episodes of any show, and New movies (currently in theaters). The answer when there is one business, with the largest market share, and they think you have no alternatives?? Piracy.

Ask the recording industry what happened when proces for CD’s got out of control. Napster. Sure Napster is gone now, but in its place are many other free sharing sites. And the few who do pay, now buy songs ala carte, via itunes.

Keep thinking you can tell my generation that we don’t have a choice.

IMHO, Netflix has run it’s course for many people. I’ve watched the 7 current movies available for streaming (the 10,000 other movies I literally don’t even recognize). The common theme I hear from people is that they use Netflix to view TV series they started watching a few years after the show’s initial run. I’m estimating this plays out to a finish line in less than 2 years — after people pound through the 10 shows they like, a few they tolerate, and finally get bored searching.

Usability sucks. My kids and I watch on the same account, so recommendations for me range from Barney – to American Pie — to National Geographic == useless. Search sucks. Why the he’ll can’t I sort on #stars? I can’t even detect a pattern in how they list movies when I’m browsing so-called “new releases”. I give up. I’d pay double for a few small changes and at least 2 moderately current movies a month.

Good luck, Netflix. It’s been fun.

The servicehas been getting worse with frequent stoppage during streaming and the system losses your place almost every time. I am switching to blockbuster.

  8. John says:

90% of the DVDs I’ve ordered recently have damaged areas. No amount of cleaning resolves the “skipping over damaged area”. Most recently I couldn’t even get the DVD to play past the previews. By the time this is even realized it’s a Saturday night and I have to wait another week for the same movie I essentially just paid for.

Netflix… you ever hear of quality control?

I’m cancelling my membership. Total B.S.

Was just on the phone with netflix for thirty mins and they couldn’t keep there story straight. Had one person telling me one thing and then transfer me to hear a completely different story. I pay for unlimited streaming however sitting in the same household i can’t watch it in a different room? Guess hulu will get my services for now on. Does anybody else have any suggestions?

  10. Just got off the phone with representatives that were actually worse then Verizen reps…

I canceled my service and just signed up for Amazon Prime.

Netflix is terrible with selection. Every movie or show that someone suggests I watch is not available for streaming. Meanwhile, other parents tell me a selection is available, but only to them via xbox? So its device-dependant. Fail. Recently the streaming quality is really bad, and stops many times. I signed up so I could watch what i wanted when i wanted, and drop cable. Nowadays, ondemand cable is looking like the future..
Netflix, you fail with device-dependant terrible-selection greedy price structure.
