Opera browser success: 6.7 million downloads thanks to a Bacon Ad!

Bacon is an important marketing tool as it stimulates one's appetite to perform an action.

While most domainers have switched to Firefox as their browser of choice over Internet Explorer, the fastest and most feature-laden browser on earth comes from Norway.

Operating from Opera.com the Oslo-based corporation makers of Opera have created a web browser that boasts unsurpassed speed in rendering web pages, processing video and increased security.

It would not be an overstatement to say that Opera never crashes.

Opera 11 was launched yesterday and in a single day 6.7 million downloads were recorded. Opera Software issued a press release to comment on this successful launch of Opera 11:

A little more than a year ago, we launched Opera 10.10. We were stunned to see an average of 1,7 million downloads per day the first week. In fact in our own words: “This download rate shatters previous Opera records.”

What a difference a year makes. Yesterday, Opera 11 was downloaded a total of 6,7 million times with 1,1 millions coming from download partners around the globe. A survey of people downloading Opera for the first time had 53% of its respondents coming from Firefox, and 43% coming from IE.

Opera jokingly attributes its recent download record to an image ad they placed on Reddit that pictured slices of bacon – apparently stimulating the appetite of millions of computer geeks around the globe. 😀

Download Opera 11 from Opera.com – with or without bacon.
