PayPal pulls plug on Advantage program

Domain brother, could you spare a dime?

PayPal stops sparing change via its Advantage program.

PayPal, the de facto king in electronic payments, has been utilizing a special program called “Advantage” for a while.

In a nutshell, the more money you spent on PayPal transactions, the more valuable of a member you were.

Using the past tense, because PayPal just announced that the Advantage program is now obsolete.

In its place, Price Matching comes into play.

“As one of our favorite customers, we wanted to thank you for being a part of the PayPal Advantage program. In order to better align the PayPal customer service experience with the needs of all of our customers, we will be making some changes and wanted to let you know that we will be discontinuing the PayPal Advantage program as of January 31, 2013.

To show our appreciation, we will be giving you exclusive access to PayPal Price Match until December 31, 2013. With PayPal Price Match, we’ll reimburse the difference if you find a lower price on an eligible item you purchased with PayPal – even on airline tickets and eBay Buy It Now items from top-rated sellers.”

To be honest, we never actually made use of the Advantage program, so we aren’t sure if it’s a huge loss or not. Have you?
