PET.com sells for $1,100,000

Recession? What’s that?

Pet.comthe much-coveted virtual property of Petsmart – went on sale for more than one million dollars, on DNForum.

Hummaad, Petsmart’s humble representative in Pakistan proceeded with listing the domain, which immediately caught the attention of both young and seasoned domain entrepreneurs, who bid away like there was no tomorrow.

Once the price passed $1 million, Hummaad announced:

“I now stop offers taking more, 20 hours now from, end auction. Bid now.”

At that point, people became suspicious of the strange syntax used by what initially appeared to be a legitimate Petsmart representative from Pakistan.

“He don’t be no rep of Petsmart, nah-uh!”, said Claudius Smith from Alleytown, Alabama. “He don’t know how to talk the english proper.”

Eventually, this fine detail gave away the shocking fact: Pet.com was not for sale after all, much to the dismay of several domainers.

“Dang! I sure was ready to cough up a million bucks for this gem. Now, I’ll have to spend it buying Christmas presents for my unworthy family!”, said Alfred Pete Zupo, a self-made multi-millionaire from Miami Beach.

It’s not uncommon these days for people to attempt to sell online what they don’t actually own. Psychiatrist Dr. Melissa Strongbottom of the Oxford Hospital for Mental Illness explained:

“Internet users are echoing the abuse that they sustained as children, often crossing the threshold of Erich von Baumeister-Scholl. It’s the behavioral stratum of the brain that controls the acts of evil and unleashes aggressiveness. Most domainers behave very closely to this profile; as if they suffered from this condition. Lobotomy is often recommended.”

Meanwhile, Hummaad was banned at DNForum; based on the estimates of Dr. Melissa Strongbottom, Hummaad will return in a few days under a new alias, selling CNN.com
