Pharmaceutical Giant buys every Vitamin domain in Existence

Lausanne-based pharmaceutical giant Lovafarm is not sitting on its laurels – or stashes of pills.

The $9.5 billion Swiss corporation has been in the business since 1877, when the Duke of Steig and Upper Westfal inaugurated the Lovafarmenstein factory, to supply Austria-Hungary with much needed medication.

In the early 20th century, Lovafarmenstein changed both its name and its focus.

By shortening the brand to Lovafarm they were able to make their name appear bigger on the pharmaceutical labels, that have limited space.

The company also switched from medication to production of vitamins, thus entering the lucrative health food market.

So what are the big news?

Lovafarm is on a buying spree, after acquiring the .com of every vitamin in existence: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12, C, D, E and K.

“We’re negotiating the acquisition of vitamin A, but ICANN is holding back currently so we’re changing our focus to the .CO Registry instead”, said Klauss Meiner, marketing specialist for Lovafarm.

“I believe the .CO Registry with its newly launched .co TLD will negotiate with us a good deal and a great business to business exchange”, he added.

When asked why the company didn’t simply purchase MultiVitamins.com and be done with it, Klauss Meiner explained that their marketing strategy is to conquer the vitamin market by taking over every respective domain – a lot of people search for specific vitamins to buy, versus all of them.

It will be interesting to see what happens when “A.co” goes to auction, potentially in the coming weeks and months. Meanwhile, Lovafarm has posted record revenue in its Q3 statements, with $3.6 billion in retail sales.
