A domainer in Portland, Oregeon was detained and was brutally tased at a mall, yesterday, according to various news media.

Linus Brovadis, a programmer from Lithuania, decided to take advantage of a special domain registration offer, provided by a local ICANN-accredited registrar, High Times Domains.

“I’m feeling ok now, but what can I say man, police brutality for sure. Not that those taser boys at the mall are real cops, shame man, the shame!” exclaimed Brovadis.

The domain registration promotion by High Times Domains, called for registering up to five .com domains at a price of $1.99 plus ICANN fee.

Apparently, Brovadis did no understand there was a limit.

“He clearly tried to abuse the system and we had to ask for mall security to escort him out,” said Martha Kuhn of High Times Domains.

“He ran a script on our Windows 8 terminal, bypassing the graphic interface and sent at least 400 connections to the Registry, locking down as many domains at the $1.99 price. We now have to eat those charges,” added Kuhn.

With the economy in bad shape and the fiscal cliff rising ahead, many domain investors try to maximize their earnings.

Such offers by domain registrars are not rare – GoDaddy often offers discount coupons – but never in the hundreds of domain registrations.

“I was treated like a criminal, they should have made it clear there is a limit of five domain registrations, I didn’t break any law!” exclaimed Brovadis, who plans to press charges against both High Times Domains and the mall security.

ICANN should definitely act immediately to discourage such deep discounts that act as a source of violence among professionals.
