Microsoft released Internet Explorer 10 en masse today, to millions of users, via a Windows update.

The grandfather of active browsers has lost a lot of its former piece of the pie, after Microsoft was forced to remove it as a mandatory Windows browser.

According to Microsoft, IE 10 is 20% faster at rendering web pages than its predecessor IE 9, and allows for touch-screen commands.

While reviews of Internet Explorer 10 running on Windows 8 – the latest OS by Microsoft – have been quite positive, the browser does not seem to have a cutting edge over either Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome.

At least, with this release, Microsoft enters the double-digit arena: Firefox is at version 19 and Chrome is at version 25.

Web and graphics developers that want to ensure their creations look fine across all browsers, will surely download Internet Explorer 10.

The domains ie10.com and internetexplorer10.com appear to not be owned by Microsoft, at first glance.
