The yet to be revealed buyer of the domain name, Sandwich.com, made Yahoo! auctioneers, Sedo, very happy – albeit, for a short time.

After an auction that garnered a lot of publicity on the Internet ended, the Yahoo! domain inventory was reduced by one, to the tune of $137,500 dollars.

Alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

According to news sources close to Yahoo! CEO, Marissa Mayer, it was announced that the high bidder for Sandwich.com explained that their bid wasn’t in the thousands, after all.

Using a tactic first utilized by the Dallas Cowboys’ bid for Cowboys.com, the bidder claimed their bid was in fact for $137 dollars and 50 cents – good enough for a freshly made sandwich at the upscale Salon D’Or restaurant, in New York City.

It’s not clear what will happen to the domain, Sandwich.com, at this point; there are private offers coming in from Boar’s Head and various Wisconsin cheese producers, if Yahoo! is interested.
