A sputnik moment for the US economy, according to president Obama.
President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address earlier tonight was made at a difficult time for the economy.
Despite the usual rhetoric, the President appeared optimistic, stating among other things:
Half a century ago, when the Soviets beat us into space with the launch of a satellite called Sputnik¸ we had no idea how we’d beat them to the moon. The science wasn’t there yet. NASA didn’t even exist. But after investing in better research and education, we didn’t just surpass the Soviets; we unleashed a wave of innovation that created new industries and millions of new jobs. This is our generation’s Sputnik moment.
That last reference to a “Sputnik Moment” sent thousands of comments flying out on twitter and other social media, some quite ironic in their content.
It’s quite absurd that an achievement by the former communist USSR is being used by the American president to signify the mark of progress in the US.
Regardless, a little known CRM software company by the name of Sputnik Moment is about to find out the power of capitalism, by receiving a fair amount of type-in traffic to their domain name, SputnikMoment.com in the next 24-48 hours.

interesting, if you go to the ‘about’ page, there is actually a link for “our name”. i was hoping to see an explanation about how they chose this name in the first place, but the page is ‘down for maintenance’.
