The truth behind DomainState’s sales pitch

Looks like DomainState – historically the 3rd domain name forum after DNForum and the inactive DomainGator – is up for sale.

The three admins – known by their aliases as Snoopy, Safesys and Paul the Aussie guy – were once suitors of DNForum, right before its teenage creator, Dan Gessler, sold it to domainer Greg Ricks for mid four figures; a fortune at that time for the young entrepreneur.

Ticked off by Greg’s circumvention of their lowball offer to Dan (some say it was as low as $1,500) they left DNForum where they used to rule as a trio of moderators, hardly knowing how to work the vBulletin settings and started DomainState.com

The current message that decorates the dull blue homepage of DomainState was apparently also emailed to several potential buyers, in hopes that a forum which was controlled very tightly by the “Three Amigos” would sell – right in the middle of a depressed domain market.

We decided to analyze for you the meaning of the DomainState sales pitch message, line by line:

Dear Members,

After over 7 years of running Domainstate we have decided to sell the site. It is with a sad heart that we have realised that it is no longer something we can commit the same level of energy as we once did.

Translation: It only took us 7 years to realize that by personally controlling the posts, signature images and other such useful intricacies of vBulletin, including the lack of a visually pleasing forum skin, we now have the option to either sell it or continue being dull and boring.

Our aim is to have the site sold within the next couple of weeks and we are considering offers now so any interested parties please contact us ASAP at admin@domainstate.com.

Translation: We can no longer afford the $100 for hosting each month and we’re ready to split the profit three ways because one of our Admins wants out.

We’d recommend that anyone with any particularly sensitive information within their private messages take advantage of the archive/delete facility within the private messages section of the user control panel in anticipation of a change of ownership.

Translation: For those of you that have hundreds of messages or contacts, get cracking. For those of you with locked accounts – tough shit.

We’d like to thank everybody for their contributions to the site over the years and wish everyone well for the future.

Translation: We were a trio of boring control freaks then and we haven’t changed still but we want your cash regardless. Please take this old horse from our aged hands.

Mike, serious matters require lots of laughs and vice versa 😀

But the truth is, that comedy delivers the stimulation needed to read through the so-called lines.

Good translation like “We can no longer afford the $100 for hosting each month “. LOL.

    thanks

The sad part is that they don’t realize that it’s too late to sell something that was never attributed a commercial value by the owners themselves.

  5. David says:

You have this wrong: “The three admins – known by their aliases as Snoopy, Safesys and Paul the Aussie guy”

To be accurate, it should read: “The three amigos – known by their aliases as Snoopy (Paul) the Aussie Guy, Matt the Aussie Guy, and Safesys (Paul) the Brit from Wales guy.”

  6. Lucius "Guns" Fabrice says:

You’re right, David. By adding this correction, DomainState’s value increased by $10.

  7. Domain what dot com? .. Domain forum you say? There is only one Domain Name Forum. 😉
