While the Sarai Sierra Instagram account is still open, having gained thousands of followers since news of her murder in Turkey broke out, the domain name SaraiSierra.com was registered on February 2nd, using WHOIS protection, according to DomainTools.

It is clear, from the text appearing on the temporary page, that the domain was registered by someone in Turkey. The registrar, isimtescil.net, is ICANN-accredited.

The motives behind such a speculative registration are unclear; it could be that Turkish-controlled media, such as the Anadolu news network, are preparing to fight the negative backclash brewing towards tourist safety in Turkey.

Sarai Sierra’s murder is still under investigation; it’s a shame that the .com matching her full name is in the hands of unknown individuals in a country so far away from home.
