Twitter.com domains get compromised

The domain name Twitter.com is registered with Melbourne IT, an Australian domain registrar.

A team of self-styled hackers calling themselves “Syrian Electronic Army” apparently compromised the account holding the domain name Twitter.com.

While there was no widespread downtime for Twitter users, currently Whois.com displays the following WHOIS record for the domain:

Earlier today, DomainTools displayed the same information, but it has been updated to that of Twitter corporation.

Currently, the domain name Twimg.com that hosts the avatars and other images of Twitter users appears to have had its WHOIS info changed as well.

It would be interesting to find out exactly how the Twitter.com domains got compromised.
