Uncle Sam is sad: Tax.info sells for peanuts on NameJet

Tax.info didn’t generate much revenue for Afilias.

Afilias has been peddling off its long-held generic .info gems, and although Wine.info sold for more than $13k today, Tax.info didn’t fare as well.

The auction for Tax.info – a keyword with half as many results on Google as ‘death’ – was held at NameJet, like the rest of the Afilias one-worders.

After 138 bidders battled it through, placing a total of 186 bids, the winner was ‘biddernumber10” with a high bid of $10,805.

That’s less than 4 times the average tax refund for 2012!

Tax preparation professionals, such as certified public accountants, would have loved to own the domain name tax.info. It’s a pity that it sold for such a relatively small chunk, but then again we doubt any end-users were present at the auction.

    Wine.info for $13k… hhmmmm.
Interestingly, last month while moderating DomainingSpain, I had Toby Clements on a panel and announced to the audience that he was brokering Wines.us for just $1500 – which I thought was a steal. An audience member yelled out “I’ll take it”. And she did. Looks like she got a great deal.
