Veritasium video: “Facebook revenue is based on fake likes and click fraud”

Veritasium, a science video blog featuring experiments, expert interviews, cool demos, and discussions with the public about everything science has more than 1 million subscribers.

In a shocking YouTube video, the channel’s researcher reveals what appears to be the living model of Facebook revenue: fake likes.

During his experiment, he displays how both the purchase of Facebook likes – a practice forbidden by the terms of service – and the purchase of Facebook ads produced identical results.

The majority of likes came from countries such as Egypt, Bangladesh, Pakistan and India, where spam bots and click farms are paid to click everything in sight.

Even a silly cat page with the notice “Anyone who likes this page must be an idiot” gathered several likes through the paid campaign.

The video asserts that paid advertising through Facebook is a waste of money.

Now, that’s shocking. Not!
