In October of this year, the Wikimedia Foundation, managers of Wikipedia, unveiled a mass “black hat” editing of Wikipedia articles.

The culprit: a company named “Wiki-PR” which has been allegedly involved in the practice of “paid editing.”

This type of editorial adjustment of Wikipedia entries, is against the Terms of Use that Wikipedia requires, as it affects the unbiased, accurate and factual nature of an electronic encyclopaedia.

In the process of examining action against the company, Wikimedia Foundation banned Wiki-PR from further editing or contributing the content of articles on Wikipedia.

Today, Cooley LLP, the law company retained on behalf of Wikimedia Foundation, send a Cease & Desist letter to the CEO of Wiki-PR, that reads in part:

“… cease and desist from further editing the Wikipedia website unless and until [they] have fully complied with the terms and conditions outlined by the Wikimedia Community.”

The full C&D letter can be read here in PDF format.
