Combat.org – Where Domainers fight for money
I was taking a nap the other day and all of a sudden, my phone rang.
The number was out of New Jersey, some fella with a funny accent.
“Yeah? Who’s this”, I asked.
“This is Tony Paperino from Jersey Shore Investments, how are ya?” – came the answer.
I was getting ready to hear some sales pitch about insurance and such crap I had no time for. But I waited for this fella’s first mistake.
“Yeah, nice to meet you. What can I do for you, Tony?”
He laughed and gave me this incredible story about a new domainer project he envisioned.
“Listen Lucius, you don’t know me but I run a big budget business here in Jersey and we want to use one of your domains, Combat.org for the job. I will offer you a position in the company, lots of potential, you know what I’m saying? Thinkaboutit!”
Tony went on to explain that he liked my Combat.org domain, registered in 1999 and Google PR4 and wanted to use it - of all things – to feature realtime fights of buxom, female domainers on cable TV.
I rolled my eyes.
“Tony, listen my man. You called me a couple of days too late, you know? Combat.org is now on a Sedo live auction and the auction ends in less than 4 days from now.”
There was a long pause, then Tony cussed in Italian, something about my mother or sister. I don’t have a sister so I made sure I understood what he said.
“You have one last word to say before I hang up, Tony. I don’t like people that disrespect my mom.”
Tony then coughed a couple of times.
“Listen, Lucius, I’m sorry man. It’s just that I hoped I’d buy Combat.org from you for a couple of hundred bucks, you know? Now I have to go bid with others on Sedo. Okay, I will do that, my investment backing is serious. Arrivederci, Lucius!”
So there you had it! Some Jersey Shore schmuck wanted to get Combat.org for cheap. Fortunately for me, the domain was featured on a live Sedo auction. He would have to spend some cash to get it.
Man. I hate lowballers.
