The FBI shut down SSNDOB Marketplace criminal platform, seized domains

The FBI has shut down the SNNDOB Marketplace and seized its associated domain names. The illicit marketplace made an estimated $19 million dollars by selling the personal data of about 24 million US citizens, according to the Justice Department.

The acronym SSNDOB stands for Social Security Number and Date Of Birth; it operated through a rotation of web sites that sold personal records such as names, dates of birth, and US Social Security numbers.

The international operation to dismantle and seize this infrastructure is the result of close cooperation with law enforcement authorities in Cyprus and Latvia. According to the DOJ press release, the seizure orders were executed against the domain names of the SSNDOB Marketplace, effectively ceasing the website’s operation.

Here are the linked domains:

  • ssndob.ws
  • ssndob.vip
  • ssndob.club
  • blackjob.biz

Meanwhile, the domain name SSNDOB.com appears to be operating under Russian control. While it’s not clear if it’s related to the SSNDOB Marketplace, its web site is for members only. They also operate SSNDOB.org.

Interestingly, the domain SSNDOB.com was acquired from HugeDomains sometime in late 2021.
