Bibliography.com owner applies for trademark registration

Florida-based LoveToKnow Corporation has applied for the registration of the mark BIBLIOGRAPHY.COM with the USPTO.

The application lists the following products and services as related to the mark:

Providing a website featuring a citation generator

The trademark application cites date of first use January 2019 and includes a signed statement by the company’s CEO about the distinctiveness the mark has acquired since 3 years ago. It also states that the web site at Bibliography.com has had 2.7 million users in the US.

The domain Bibliography.com was registered in 1997; it appears to have been acquired by the current registrant in late 2018 from the NameFind LLC portfolio of domains.

Why was BIBLIOGRAPHY.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?

It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.

Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.

As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
