Buckman’s acquired the domains Skis.com and Snowboards.com; filed to register trademarks

Buckman’s Ski and Snowboard Shops, a family-owned and operated ski company with over 50 years of industry experience and seven retail stores in Pennsylvania, has acquired the domain names Skis.com and Snowboards.com.

The company operates from the domain name Buckmans.com.

The acquisition appears to have completed at the beginning of May 2023; meanwhile, the company has filed trademark applications to register the marks SKIS.COM and SNOWBOARDS.COM.

The SKIS.COM application involves graphic elements:

The mark consists of Skis.com wordmark with Mountains (landscapes); Scenery with mountains. Bands, curved; Bars, curved; Curved line(s), band(s) or bar(s); Lines, curved.

The application involves the following products/services:

On-line retail store services featuring sporting goods, apparel, and ski equipment and related items therefor.

The SNOWBOARDS.COM application states that the mark consists of standard characters without claim to any particular font style, size, or color.

The application involves the following products/services:

On-line retail store services featuring sporting goods, apparel, and snowboard equipment and related items therefor.

Buckmans also owns the more rare spelling Skiis.com along with the Skis.net and Snowboards.net domains.

Applying for the registration of matching marks is an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.

Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD.

As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
