Embrace the typo: #Coachella files to register #Couchella trademark

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is held annually at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley. Thousands attend every year.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 event was canceled and prospects for the 2021 event look very bleak.

With that in mind, Coachella applied for the trademark COUCHELLA, indicating a “stay at home” online concert variant—just the way NamesCon Online filled the gap for NamesCon.

The “intent to use” application is for:

Broadcasting of programmes via the internet; Streaming of audio, video, and audiovisual material on the Internet

Meanwhile, the domain name Couchella.com is registered to another party since 2011.

In the regular flow of things, one should secure the domain before applying for the mark. Coachella has filed several UDRPs in the past against domains infringing on its brand, but in this case we’d think they are coming in second.

The Couchella.com owner seeks $10,000 dollars for the domain name.
