Slaps.com : New #trademark application indicates #domain was sold

A trademark application for SLAPS.COM at the USPTO is a positive indicator that the domain Slaps.com was recently sold.

The application for the registration of the SLAPS.COM mark was made with an “intent to use” clause. The domain Slaps.com was last updated on April 4, 2020, indicating that a sale completed around that time. The domain Slaps.com was listed for sale on Afternic in the recent past.

There are in fact three fresh trademark applications by the same company at the USPTO, PK Interactive LLC. Here are the classes that SLAPS.COM was applied for:

  • Downloadable mobile phone application for use in downloading, accessing, and streaming digital media content in the fields of music and entertainment via global computer networks, telecommunications networks, and wireless communication networks
  • Electronic transmission and streaming of digital media content for others via global computer networks, telecommunications networks, and wireless communication networks, and:
  • Entertainment services, namely, providing non-downloadable digital media content in the fields of music and entertainment by means of global computer networks and wireless communication networks; providing information, commentary and articles in the fields of music and entertainment via a website

Slaps.com is without doubt an ultra-premium domain name, and it seems that the new owners are looking to form an online community of musicians that share “slaps.”

Why was SLAPS.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?

It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.

Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.

Will these applications become the new norm? Watch this video from NamesCon Online 2020.
