StorageBoxes.com : Trademark application at the #USPTO

The operators of the premium domain StorageBoxes.com have applied for the matching trademark with the USPTO, STORAGEBOXES.COM.

The mark consists of the words STORAGEBOXES.COM with STORAGE stacked on top of BOXES.COM, with a hexagonal element to the left of the stacked words. These are the services the mark is applied for:
Providing self-storage facilities for others; Rental of storage containers.

The trademark application was filed with a date of first use being “at least as early as” June 4, 2021. The domain has not changed hands, however, as it’s been part of the Nickolas Brands LLC portfolio of domains, that includes Chickens.com.

Why was STORAGEBOXES.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?

StorageBoxes.com

It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.

Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.

As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.

Will these applications become the new norm? Watch this video from NamesCon Online 2020.
