UNO.com : #Trademark application reveals buyer of Brent Oxley’s #domain name

Investor Brent Oxley sold the domain UNO.com in September 2020, for a reputedly 7 figure, financed deal.

There was no information about the buyer, their locale, or what they planned to do with UNO.com. The web site’s placeholder uses WIX to display basic content and a contact form.

In recent weeks, UNO.com has changed its lander to incorporate a logo unifying the letter “U” and number “1” visually.

But who operates UNO.com?

Thanks to a fresh application for the registration of the matching mark, UNO.COM, we can see that it’s the operators of the domain MyUno.com.

UNO.com

According to the USPTO application, UNO.COM is a mark application filed with an “intent to use” basis, for the following services:

Software as a service (SAAS) services featuring software for customer relationship management.; Software as a service (SAAS) services featuring software for enterprise resources planning.

The company’s address is a PO box in Washington, DC and the same applicant has filed for the registration of the mark MYUNO.COM, for the following services:

Providing a website featuring resources, namely, non-downloadable software for customer relationship management and enterprise resources planning. ; Providing temporary use of on-line non-downloadable single sign-on software; Providing temporary use of on-line non-downloadable software for mobile identity and authentication services.; Providing temporary use of on-line non-downloadable software for customer relationship management and enterprise resources planning.; Providing temporary use of online, non-downloadable enterprise software for mobile identity and authentication services.; Providing temporary use of online, non-downloadable enterprise software for customer relationship management and enterprise resources planning.; Providing user authentication services using single sign-on technology for online software applications; User authentication services using single sign-on technology for online software applications.

The same applicant has filed for the registration of MYUNO for the same services as above. Lastly, they have filed for the registration of MYUNO in another class:

Software as a service (SAAS) services featuring software for customer relationship management.; Software as a service (SAAS) services featuring software for enterprise resources planning.

We can say for certain that the MYUNO and UNO.COM applications were made by the same entity. Its CEO signs all of the trademark applications and his name is available in the USPTO public documents.

While we don’t know for sure if the domain UNO.com has been paid in full already, we can assert that its operators are very serious about protecting UNO.com and the MyUno brand.

  1. Teddy says:

Does MyUno really think the public associates Uno with their service? What about Pizzeria Uno? Or the game Uno? Or the number uno? Seems to be another misuse of the new domain trademark law. Based on the facts, should this application really be approved?

  2. DomainGang says:

Teddy – Their application is for UNO.COM which is not a generic term, with or without the .com.

The Booking.com case applies to generic, dictionary words that have become brands and leaders in their own class of services.
