Domain Name Jargon #0006: Domain Appraisal

Domain Education at its finest.

Domain Education at its finest.

Ah, it’s finally Friday! 😀

We are continuing our domain education dedicated to the esoteric language often used in the domain industry, via the Domain Name Jargon series. 😀

Often misunderstood by most domain investors,  we are attempting to (re)define domaining, in an easy, enjoyable manner.

TGIF! 😀

Appraisal (of a domain) : The act of entering a domain name into a web form, randomizing a numerical seed in the 0 – 1,000,000 range and spitting out a supposedly expert number in US dollars.

Domain appraisals performed by expert software usually follow this methodology; when domainers perform the same task manually, the process is known as “pulling numbers out of one’s ass.

To achieve the higher echelons of domain appraisal status, one needs to simply convert audio-visual stimuli, producing evaluation numbers that are based purely on emotion.

In order to produce an appraisal for a domain name, there is no need to research its practical use or other parameters; most domains up for appraisal are of the category killer type.

Example: “I put SmallPotato.com up for appraisal and I’m hoping fellow domainers will rate it at least as high as Rick Schwartz’s ebet.com!”
