Are MasterBucks copying after the Bitcoin fame?

Does anyone remember Epik Bucks?

Elegantly avoiding the term “dollars”, the Epik Bucks were the coin du jour for Epik’s store-building costs, participating in the Epik conference and for trading domains.

Masterbucks to the rescue!

The test was met with great excitement by the hardcore Epik acolytes but ultimately, it failed.

Now Epik is back, presumably wanting to go after the very successful Bitcoin business model, and they issued the Masterbucks.

The concept is the same: earn Masterbucks while you perform social tasks such as blogging and commenting, then you can exchange those virtual “bucks” on 8,000 Epik stores.

It’s not a bad idea, if only those stores actually existed.

The Masterbucks store contains very few points of purchase of goods for your Masterbucks, but assuming that you are masterbucking a lot you might enjoy a ‘happy ending’ at a Spa. Unfortunately, it only has some “lorem ipsum” copy for the time being.

BullS – What is the exchange rate?

BullS Bucks(TM) is not backed by some smock organizations like the corrupted IMF, Fed or Beneke, it is solidly financed by the warlord drug/gold cartels.

1 BullS Buck=1000 (x) the exchange rate of (US Dollar/Australian dollar/Pound-which ever one is higher) agst the home currency when the purchase is made.

    *Application is by invitation only.

I fail to see the correlation between the two — MasterBucks is an attempt to take an in-house payment system and make it available to a broader spectrum of customers. There are many ‘barter currencies’ out there — almost every major barter exchange has its own, and there are exchanges that make a market for multiple currencies to be traded for USD, EUR etc. Bitcoin is an attempt at an entirelty distinct payment system intended as an alternate, supplement or even replacement for government currencies.

A closer analogy for MB is the payment system Moneybookers, which started life as the in-house account funding/defunding interface for the sportsbook Gamebookers.
