BlueCheckHomes.com : Parody site unveils the San Francisco way of doing things

Author, artist, and entrepreneur, Danielle Baskin, pulled off a big prank on Twitter with the introduction of Blue Check Homes last week.

The founder of Dialup, an app that lets anyone receive calls from strangers, rolled out the matching domain, BlueCheckHomes.com as a-supposed-provider of services.

Per the web site, anyone in San Francisco who wants to incorporate a “verified” blue badge that matches their Twitter account, can do so on the front of their home.

The cost for creating a plaster cast “blue check” mark? A mere $2,999 dollars, an amount that equals the average monthly rent in San Francisco.

Baskin received an overwhelming number of requests for consideration; after all, her “Blue Check Homes” required verification of the applicant’s “worthiness” to carry such a blue check mark. Sounds like the elitist approach of verification for housing in many high-end areas.

It was all in parody of the way things are in San Francisco, apparently, and the truth was disclosed as a disclaimer at the bottom of the web site’s main page, which many failed to read. 🙂 Do you ever read the disclaimer here on DomainGang, we wonder.
