Boston rocks: Man’s best friend generates 5-figure domain sale

You know what they say about dogs: they’re a man’s best friend.

Unlike some fair weather human friends, dogs remain loyal and supportive of the humans that care for them. And what a great moment when they generate some money as well.

That’s exactly what happened to Boston domainer, Kurt O’Leary, whose two year old cocker spaniel, Rapster, just made him $15,000.

“I was stuck in my apartment with Rapster for two days due to the terrorist attacks of last week,” said Kurt O’Leary.

“Rapster behaved for the most part but you can’t keep that playful dog indoors for too long. So I had to improvise about his entertainment,” added O’Leary.

Kurt decided that watching dog videos on YouTube with his dog would keep the hyper-active cocker spaniel entertained; his computer was also connected to live auctions on his NameJet account.

While Kurt took a nap on Wednesday afternoon, Rapster decided to tap away on the keyboard, when the videos ended. Somehow, the dog ended up pawing some great key combinations on the keyboard.

“So I go back to my account on NameJet and found that two domains on my watch-list had been won,” said O’Leary. “Then I noticed a third one, that I couldn’t remember bidding on. That’s when things got really weird!” added O’Leary, scratching a playful Rapster on his belly.

The domain was automatically paid for by O’Leary’s NameJet account, per the email records. The next evening, he got an unexpected call.

“A very anxious-sounding gentleman told me that he planned to bid much higher on that same domain but was on a flight to Seattle during the closing hours and someone had outbid him. When I heard the domain that Rapster had clicked on with his paws, I almost fell off my chair!” exclaimed O’Leary.

After a bit of negotiations, O’Leary turned his $89 catch into a $15,000 sale and Rapster looked oblivious to what he had achieved, other than eye-balling a huge trophy bone in his toy basket.

“I love that dog and after all the madness of last week, he deserves to have a lot of park fun and some yummy treats,” said Kurt O’Leary. “This is by far my best sale this year and I owe it to Rapster, no doubt!”

Congratulations to Kurt for being such a caring dog owner and to Rapster for pawing his way through the NameJet domain maze!
