Canadian University study finds clean hands result in good domains

Washing your hands often results in better domain registrations, according to a study.

The University of Toronto has published the results of a study its Internet & Social Media department conducted between March 2008 and March 2012.

Sampling the daily behavior of 150 Canadian domainers, the study determined that those domainers who chose to follow strict sanitary rules ended up registering 75% better domain names.

“It’s incredible what a little soap and water can do,” said Guy Mustakivitch who coordinated the research.

“Washing one’s hands before touching the keyboard or after using a shared keyboard is a good shield against germs, diseases and bad domain registrations,” said Mustakivitch.

Data shows that while most Canadian domainers wash their hands after using the bathroom, they don’t do the same after using shared, public keyboards. But those who did, registered domains that were more profitable in PPC or via sales.

“It goes without saying that our sponsor, Palmolive, was excited to see the results of the four year scientific research,” said Mustakivitch, while washing his hands.

“I would strongly recommend the placement of soap or antiseptic if preferred, next to each computer unit. It will keep you healthier, stronger and with a better mindset as a domainer,” added Mustakivitch, while air-drying his palms.

The University of Toronto now offers scholarships to domainers that were part of the study, sponsored by Palmolive.
