Chinese domain market report : The final frontier

Domain sales Made in China.

Domain sales Made in China.

The Year of the Money entered its final quarter, and what could have been another stellar year for Chinese domain sales, wasn’t.

It started with lots of fireworks and very few paid attention to our cautionary statements.

That’s understandable, everyone wants to make money, tons of it, with no effort.

That’s the defining line that separates domain investors from domain flippers, long holding stock market investors and penny stock day-traders.

Rick Schwartz points out the dangers surrounding the Chinese domain market, in today’s epic post:

“Many domain investors are always chasing shiny objects. They see someone sell a domain for big bucks or even a modest amount and they start registering all kinds of domain names that they think are similar, but in fact have no relationship or even value whatsoever.”

We keep track of domains that changed hands in the Chinese domain market, between 2 to 4 characters, for the .CN, .COM and .NET TLDs.

Because the sales volume has shrank, we report every few days; today’s accumulated list spans two days. Actually, that’s not a bad list of domains, compared to recent weeks!

The sky is falling!! The sky is falling!!
The domain market ebbs and flows along with the general economy. The World economy should have imploded 8 yrs ago so when it does watch out. Domains will be the LAST thing you will be worrying about.

The rest of the World has just started to realize the value of short and keyword domains. Some new gtlds will get some traction but all of that needs A BIG MARKETING BUDGET to get any attention. Then when they get some registrations they kill renewals with HUGE renewal fees.
.com and short 2 character $10/yr cctlds are a guaranteed good bet for any business looking to connect with the World. Oh and I am still getting lots of hits on those worthless 6n.com I paid $15 each for. Still holding long. Go Dragons! Buy some Bits and gold just incase. 😉
    2c.

Steve – Tell that to the dozens of bag-holders who invested in “chinese premiums” in worthless TLDs. Or the LLLL .com “Chinese letter” buyers at $x,xxx who were looking to 10x their investment.

    Sorry, the game is over.

Buy at the wrong time with anything YOU LOSE. Simple.
Send me all your 1 and 2 and 3l.cc’s, 4l and 4n.coms. The Chinese and the rest of the World are years behind but starting to realize where the value is in domains.
Sorry the market hasn’t even started yet. imho 😉
