Chinese domain market sales : Luxury items are like one character domains!

Ultra short domain 7.CN

Ultra short domain 7.CN

There’s ongoing paradox in China: Beijing has passed New York as the new billionaire capital of the world.

Chinese billionaires are worth $1.4 trillion dollars today, a third more than just a couple of years ago.

And yet, Chinaโ€™s luxury market declined last year.

According to a new report on luxury items, while wealth is abundant, the Chinese government’s crackdown on luxury emphasizes the promotion of frugality.

China’s officials are cracking down on corruption, and fewer people are now willing to flaunt a gold Rolex even though they can afford it.

No Prada for you, Ling Ling.

In the domain space, an example of a luxury item would be a single character domain.

Not just any character, but rather lucky number 7.CN which has changed hands according to today’s Chinese domain market report.

We keep track of short domain sales among the Chinese, of between 2no, scratch that, ONE – and 4 characters in length, and for the .CN and .COM TLDs.

Just don’t hope you’ll see a single character .COM change hands any time soon.

Today’s list of domains is rather hefty, and it contains several numeric domains as well.

  1. Eric Lyon says:

While Beijing has passed NY as the new Billionaire capital of the world, I think it may be attributed to population size, giving Beijing more of an advantage. Beijing: 11.51 million / NY: 8.406 million. As you can see, Beijing has an additional 3.1 million people that are potential money makers to raise their total above New Yorks. ๐Ÿ˜‰ .. Just saying..
