Chinese domain market sales : Not a tooth left intact!

Yu no so funny!

Pulling teeth to make a chip sale.

My dentist’s assistant is Chinese, a very nice lady who still works while 8 months pregnant. Ma Lin chews gum while she talks.

While cleaning my teeth, she asked me if I like chips.

For a second there, I thought she meant the food type, and whether she was commenting on remnants of them found on my teeth, but she was quick to add “you know, domain chips.

I was flabbergasted. Drool came down my cheek, and Ma Lin promptly wiped it.

She said she invested in them, her cousin is a domainer, and that they spent a small fortune buying “letter and number” strings of 4-6 characters, after reading all about their promised performance in domain blogs.

I asked her how much money she made from them. She chewed down hard twice, took a deep breath and said “zero.”

Feeling uneasy and in-between opening my mouth wide, I asked her what she meant by that.

She proceeded explaining that they had lost $20,000 buying worthless “shits” and having to cash in quickly for her upcoming baby delivery. They sold most of it for $4,000 and the rest of it doesn’t look too promising. She added that had she known it was all a game she’d “pull out every tooth” of the person who started playing with people’s money.

Today’s list of Chinese domain sales is quite short. No, Wuyu did not sell any more chips, so there you have it, the typical stunted list.

Oh, the story above is a small fable. But I’m sure it reflects the position many domain investors found themselves in, having bought at the peak of a market that has gone way down since.
