Cop pulls Domainer over: Ka-ching!

Sometimes a domain sale can occur in the most bizarre and unexpected places.

That’s what Florida domainer, Roger Houston, experienced during a short trip to neighboring Georgia.

“I was driving through Atlanta, returning home to Jax after my cousin’s wedding, and the weather was nasty,” said Houston.

“I didn’t see the speed sign, that apparently was 45mph and not the usual 55mph – so I see lights and this cop pulls me over.”

Roger Houston has registered the Florida plates DOMAINZ and he drives his GMC Yukon XL around with pride.

“So the cop comes up to me and asked for the usual, license and registration, then I’m waiting for the worst. I heard cops in Georgia are among the meanest in the region,” said Houston.

What happened next, would blow the mind of even seasoned domainers such as Frank Schilling, Rick Schwartz and Elliot Silver.

“The cop said, do I have a list of domains I’m selling. I was flabbergasted, I said of course I do, and gave him a printout I kept in my car to share with buddies at my cousin’s wedding!” exclaimed Houston. “Well he went through the list pretty quickly because two minutes later he was asking how much I want for a particular LLLL .com. I said, $400 and he said, deal. He also told me he’d let this one slide!”

This amazing encounter thus saved Roger Houston the $175 ticket and he was able to make a $400 sale, all because of his custom DOMAINZ tag.

“I received the PayPal the same day and pushed the domain in GoDaddy, no need to use escrow with a cop, right? I’m really happy and I owe it to my intuition to register custom car plates!” exclaimed Houston.

Maybe everyone should register similar tags in their home state as well. Congratulations Roger!
