Stolen customer data is the #2 crime on the Internet, after faking one's gender

A laptop containing several million records of a domain Registrar’s customer data has been stolen at a bakery in Seattle. The theft occurred early Tuesday morning, when Tuula Garimaldi, an intern at ProxyRegistrarForAnotherRegistrar LLC stopped at Marvin’s famous crispy bakery in downtown Seattle.

“I was picking up a couple of glazed apple danish pastries and an extra large latte, when I realized that my laptop was gone. It had all the customer data on it and now it’s gone!”

Normally, such a theft would be devastating for a company, however Tuula was not very upset. While munching on the second pastry, she explained that she was confident she’d keep her internship with ProxyRegistrarForAnotherRegistrar LLC.

“It’s not like the data was real or something, I mean, customers totally fake their WHOIS info. We ran tests the week before and like, 98% of our domain registrants had used fake name, address, phone number and had a temporary Gmail address. “

Tuula added that while the company normally offers free WHOIS Shield services for those who wish to remain anonymous, they started charging $10 a year for this service; by doing so, the number of domain owners that faked their WHOIS info skyrocketed.

“I’m really sorry I lost the laptop, as I had pictures of my trip to Disney World there. Now they’re gone.”

We tried to contact ProxyRegistrarForAnotherRegistrar LLC but the WHOIS info of this ICANN-accredited registrar was apparently fake.
