Dan.com removes IP of buyer from transaction panel

Domain marketplace Dan.com has removed the provision of the buyer’s IP address from the negotiation panel. An example can be seen below:

Until very recently, domain sellers could see the IP address of the party making an offer via the communications window; the IP would appear when hovering above the flag representing the country or locale of the other party.

One could also click on the flag to copy the IP address for further research. It was a very useful piece of intel for the domain seller, who’d acquire a better idea about the other party’s location and intentions.

Now, only the flag appears without providing the IP address when hovering above the flag. Dan.com has also removed the ability to view the IP address of the buyer from past communications!

It’s an indication of how things are changing at GoDaddy-owned Dan.com.

In a related story, today marks the 4th day that crypto isn’t supported as a means of payment at Dan.com.

  1. Richard Johnson says:

It’s a breach of data privacy to show IP addresses. The ridiculous reasoning is that someone could find out who was using that IP at that specific time.

Richard Johnson – Maybe in Europe. In the US, privacy is implied and never warranted.
