Verisign released the Domain Name Industry Brief (DNIB) covering the Q2/2024 period.
The second quarter of 2024 ended with 362.4 million domain name registrations across all top-level domains (TLDs), the same as in the first quarter of 2024. This is an increase of 5.8 million registrations (1.6%) compared to the previous year.
For the .com and .net TLDs, there were 170.6 million registrations combined by the end of the second quarter of 2024. This is a decrease of 1.8 million (1.1%) from the first quarter of 2024, and a decrease of 3.8 million (2.2%) compared to the previous year.
As of June 30, 2024, there were 157.6 million .com registrations and 13.0 million .net registrations. New registrations for .com and .net domains totaled 9.2 million in the second quarter of 2024, down from 10.2 million in the same period in 2023. The preliminary renewal rate for .com and .net domains in the second quarter of 2024 is 72.6%.
