Meta Platforms Inc., the full name of Meta, the umbrella company of Facebook, just pledged $60 million dollars on a bunch of meta domains, related trademarks, and more.
The $60 million deal was closed with US regional bank Meta Financial Group, in order to acquire the Meta name and related brands, including Metabank and Meta Financial Group. All Meta-related domain names and social media accounts are to be transferred to a shell company, Beige Key LLC, owned by Facebook.
Meta Financial said it plans to use part of the proceeds for the cost of implementing a new name, which it so far wasn’t announced. It seems that they will be cash loaded, looking for a new name, perhaps following the same “stealth mode” that Facebook utilized. 😀
