GoDaddy: Discount Domain Club expansion and price changes

We are now confirmed and ready to do business!

GoDaddy increased the price of its Domain Discount Club today.

An update from GoDaddy revealed a number of changes to its flagship Domain Discount Club program, that combines the ability to bid in auctions and get low registration and renewal pricing.

According to the announcement:

“The Discount Domain Club is expanding to cover all domains—including hundreds of new domain extensions—and we’ve lowered prices even more. The subscription price for Discount Domain Club is also changing to $9.99/month, effective when your plan renews.”

Prior to this, the Domain Discount Club cost was an annual fee of roughly $90 dollars per year, so the price increased  by 30%, when added annually.

What’s the point if they allow for your names to be stolen via hacking and phishing email they seem unwilling to stop ?

  2. DomainGang says:

Rod – Anyone can pretend it’s GoDaddy and set up a portal that looks close enough for the unsuspected to be fooled by. They actually warn about it: https://garage.godaddy.com/godaddy/godaddy-customers-beware-email-phishing-attempts/

For those getting out of Moniker into GD the club increase is probably still worth it. Just got an email from Moniker, looks like they’re jacking all prices up on Feb 2 except .org.

.com Current Price: $9.59, New Price: $9.99
.net Current Price: $9.19, New Price: $9.99
.org Current Price: $10.09, New Price: $9.99
.info Current Price: $9.39, New Price: $9.99
.biz Current Price: $10.59, New Price: $10.99
    .co.uk Current Price: $7.29, New Price: $9.99
.us Current Price: $6.95, New Price:…

SL – The price increase is worth it for domainers with medium to large portfolios. If you’re getting 30 cents more at the closest competitor, you need $120/0.30 = 400 domains to bridge that gap.

    DDC is billed annually.

  5. KC says:

Can you group your renewals into, say, 2 groups at different times of the year. Use a discount code to join DDC for only 1 month, renew group 1, get out, and then join again for the next group to renewal? This means you only pay less than $20 instead of $120. Can it work?

  6. DomainGang says:

KC – No, DCC is billed annually, not monthly. The average cost is $9.99 /month but you have to prepay 12,24,36 etc months in advance.

Also none of the few domain discount club coupons I tried are working. Does anyone have one that works? Last year a 1 year membership was $89.99 and I paid $58.49 with a coupon.

  8. DomainGang says:

DG – I’m pretty sure that’s the entire idea, to drop the discount coupons and raise the price. I also did the discounted DDC registration as you mentioned.

  9. Bob says:

Think I’m just going to renew everybody for multiple years before mine expires and not renew it.
